Empoleon is a Water/Steel pivot with useful resistances with Water/Steel typing. Water/Steel STAB lets it pressure Fire, Ground, Rock, Fairy, and Ice targets. Its role depends on the format, but the type-chart job is clear: use its useful resistances, immunities, or offensive pressure to force the opponent into predictable answers rather than treating it as a generic switch-in. Stats, ability choice, and legal moves still decide how aggressively it can be positioned. The weakness profile is the central part of the page: Empoleon is 2× weak to Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Empoleon is immune to Poison. These numbers come from the standard type chart for Water/Steel, so ability effects, field effects, Terastallization, or format-specific rules can change an individual turn without changing the baseline matchup. Do not leave Empoleon in front of a super-effective attacker just because it has a useful offensive move in return. To use Empoleon well, bring it in through a resisted move, a pivot, a forced switch, or a revenge-kill window rather than repeated raw entries. It appreciates teammates that cover Electric, Fighting, and Ground pressure and create safe entries. To counter Empoleon, preserve Electric-type attackers, Fighting-type attackers, and Ground-type attackers and pressure it before it can turn its matchup into momentum. Use the type chart first, then account for speed, bulk, ability, recovery, and revealed coverage before committing to the exchange.
