Competitive Strategy
Weavile is built to punish exposed targets, not to absorb hits. Dark/Ice gives it a Psychic immunity plus useful Ice, Ghost, and Dark resistances, but its defensive side is fragile and Fighting attacks deal 4× damage. Fire, Bug, Rock, Steel, and Fairy are also super effective. Treat every entry as valuable: bring Weavile in after a KO, through U-turn or Volt Switch, or against a predicted Psychic or Ghost move. Knock Off is often Weavile's safest progress move because it removes Heavy-Duty Boots, Leftovers, Choice items, or defensive utility even if the opponent survives. Ice STAB pressures Dragon, Flying, Grass, and Ground targets, while Ice Shard gives priority for weakened faster threats. Swords Dance can sweep late, but only after Fighting and Steel answers have been weakened. If the ruleset changes available moves, choose the strongest legal Ice option that fits the format. Counterplay starts with denying free entries and preserving a Fighting, Steel, Fairy, Fire, Rock, or Bug answer. Bulky Steel-types can take Ice attacks and threaten back, while Fighting priority or strong Fighting coverage usually forces Weavile out. Watch for Knock Off before relying on an item-based answer. Weavile wants teammates that punish bulky Steel and Fairy switch-ins, plus hazard support that puts targets into Ice Shard range. It also needs defensive partners that can absorb Fighting pressure because its 4× weakness is too severe to cover by revenge killing alone.
