Competitive Strategy
Darkrai is a fast Dark-type special attacker that pressures teams through Speed, special power, and the threat of setup. Dark Pulse is its core STAB option, while coverage can target Fairy, Dark, Steel, or Normal answers depending on the format. Its Psychic immunity gives it a clean entry point against predicted Psychic attacks, but its bulk is not high enough to treat it as a defensive anchor. The weakness profile is Fighting, Bug, and Fairy, all at 2×. Darkrai has no 4× weakness because it is a single Dark type. Fairy answers are especially important because they resist Dark pressure and threaten back, while Fighting attackers can force it out if they survive the first hit. Bug pressure often appears through pivot moves, which can punish Darkrai even when the direct damage is not the only problem. To use Darkrai well, bring it in through a pivot, after a KO, or against Psychic pressure, then force the opponent to reveal its Fairy, Fighting, or special wall answer. It appreciates teammates that remove Fairy types and absorb priority. To counter Darkrai, keep a healthy Fairy, Fighting, or Bug answer, use revenge killers that outspeed or survive one hit, and avoid giving it a free setup turn against passive targets.
