Fairy type was introduced in Generation 6 to nerf Dragons. It succeeded — and became the most dominant defensive type in competitive Pokemon. Here's why.

Fairy's resistances make it easy to switch in. Use Fairy types to pivot into Fighting, Dark, or Dragon attacks.

2. Pair with Steel Types

Steel resists Fairy's weaknesses (Poison, Steel). Fairy resists Steel's weaknesses (Fighting, Fire, Ground). They cover each other perfectly.

3. Watch for Poison Coverage

Many Pokemon run Poison coverage specifically to hit Fairy types:
