Pokemon GO Type Chart 2026 - Quick Reference Guide

Pokemon GO uses a slightly different type chart than the main series games. Understanding these differences is crucial for raids, PvP (GO Battle League), and Team GO Rocket battles.

How Pokemon GO Type Effectiveness Differs

The main series uses 2×, 0.5×, and 0× multipliers. Pokemon GO is different:

MatchupMain SeriesPokemon GO
Super Effective1.6×
Not Very Effective0.5×0.625×
Immune0.391×
Double Super Effective2.56×
Double Resist0.25×0.391×

Key difference: There are no true immunities in Pokemon GO. Ground moves still hit Flying types, Normal moves still hit Ghost types — they just deal reduced damage (0.391×).

This means some strategies from the main series don't work in GO. For example, Gengar (Ghost/Poison) still takes damage from Normal and Fighting moves.

  • Registeel (Steel) — Lock On + Focus Blast/Flash Cannon walls most things
  • Swampert (Water/Ground) — Mud Shot + Hydro Cannon is incredibly fast

Ultra League (2500 CP)

  • Giratina Altered (Ghost/Dragon) — Shadow Claw + Dragon Claw/Shadow Sneak
  • Cresselia (Psychic) — Psycho Cut + Grass Knot/Moonblast
  • Swampert (Water/Ground) — Still dominant here
  • Trevenant (Ghost/Grass) — Shadow Claw + Seed Bomb/Shadow Ball

Master League (No CP Limit)

  • Dialga (Steel/Dragon) — Dragon Breath + Iron Head/Draco Meteor
  • Giratina Origin (Ghost/Dragon) — Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball/Ominous Wind
  • Mewtwo (Psychic) — Psycho Cut + Psystrike/Shadow Ball
  • Groudon (Ground) — Mud Shot + Fire Punch/Precipice Blades

Team GO Rocket Counters

vs Giovanni

Giovanni's Pokemon rotate, but these types consistently work:

  • Fighting — Handles most Normal-type shields
  • Ground — Covers Electric and Poison grunts
  • Fairy — Walls Dragon-type shadow legendaries

vs Cliff, Sierra, Arlo

General strategy:

  1. Lead with a fast-charging Pokemon (Swampert, Lucario) to burn shields
  2. Switch to your type counter for their main threat
  3. Keep a generalist (Mewtwo, Garchomp) in the back
